How to make olopatadine eye drops

  • It inhibits the release of histamine from mast cells and is a relatively selective antagonist of histamine receptors. As a result, olopatadine prevents immediate type I hypersensitivity reactions. Topical ophthalmic administration relieves ocular itching associated with allergic conjunctivitis.

Medical uses of Pataday 0.2% Eye Drops

  • Olopatadine eye drops are a medicine used to treat and control eye allergies. It works in two different ways by reducing and controlling the severity of the allergic reaction.
  • Olopatadine eye drops are used to treat itchy eyes associated with seasonal allergic conjunctivitis.
  • Allergic conjunctivitis: Certain substances (allergens) such as pollen, house dust, or animal fur can cause allergic reactions that result in itching, redness, and swelling of the surface of the eye.

How to use Pataday 0.2% Eye Drops

  • Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.
  • Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
  • To apply eye drops, wash your hands first. To avoid contamination, do not touch the dropper tip or let it touch your eye or any other surface.
  • If you wear contact lenses, remove them before using eye drops.
  • Wait at least 10 minutes before replacing your contact lenses.
  • Tilt your head back, look up, and pull your lower eyelid down to create a pouch.
  • Hold the dropper directly over your eye and place one drop into the pouch. Look down, gently close your eyes, and place one finger at the corner of your eye (near your nose).
  • Apply gentle pressure for 1 to 2 minutes before opening your eyes. This will prevent the medication from draining out. Try not to blink or rub your eye.
  • If you are directed to use this medication in both eyes, repeat these steps for your other eye.
  • If you are using another type of eye medication (such as drops or ointments), wait at least 5 minutes before using other medications.
  • Use eye drops before eye ointments to allow the drops to enter the eye.
  • Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it.
  • To help you remember, use it at the same time(s) each day.
  • If your condition persists or worsens, or if you think you may have a serious medical problem, get medical help right away.
  • Doses may be changed in special circumstances, so always follow the instructions of your doctor or pharmacist.
  • If you take more medicine than you should, talk to your doctor or go to the hospital right away.
  • If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next dose.
  • Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for a missed dose.

Side effects of Pataday 0.2% eye drops

  • Serious side effects are not expected with this medication.
  • Although the following side effects are not common to everyone, some patients may complain of the following:
  1. Dry, itchy, red, irritated, or crusty eyes
  2. ocular surface inflammation
  3. Eye drainage
  4. eye pain
  5. increased tear production
  6. eyelid redness and swelling
  7. photosensitivity
  8. blurred vision
  9. Smudge in your eye
  10. burning, stinging, or tingling sensation
  11. Headache
  12. dizziness
  13. tired or fatigue
  14. dry nose
  15. increased heart rate
  16. dry mouth
  17. change in your sense of taste
  18. nausea
  19. red or itchy skin

  • If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
  • Your doctor will discuss the potential risks and benefits of using this medication during pregnancy and breast-feeding.

Warnings and precautions while using Pataday 0.2% Eye Drops

  1. Before using olopatadine, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies.
  2. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems.
  3. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.
  4. Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: contact lens use.
  5. After applying this medicine, your vision may become temporarily blurred. Do not drive, use machinery, or do any activity that requires clear vision until you are sure you can perform such activities safely.

How to store Pataday 0.2% eye drops

  • After opening, the drops are safe for use in the eye for 28 days. After that, using the drops can cause serious damage to the eye as bacteria may have entered.
  • Store below 25°C.
  • Don't cool down
  • Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
  • Must be stored in the original package to protect from moisture.
  • Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton/blister/label. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
